We choose to live in boxes.

Some boxes are nicer than others… Minimihara House
I went to see MOON last week. It was excellent. Sam Rockwell is the man. I’m guessing Colin Farrell makes more money than him. This is a crime. As most know Moon was directed by David Bowie’s son. This has no relevance whatsoever, except for some small bit. The easy route would be to somehow make a comparison to “Major Tom”, because, you know…David Bowie…song about space. This is why you don’t get to write movies. if anything, it’s the spirit of Elton John’s “Rocket Man” that lives in this film. And of course, 2001, and a little bit of Alien. People who don’t understand how art works often think there’s this misguided sense of “originality” that gives art it’s value. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Art has to speak to the great art that came before it. To make a sci-fi movie that doesn’t live in the world made possible by 2001 is foolish. Look at any “space” movie made before that. 2001 did more for our collective imagination about space than the actual Moon landing, which (didn’t) happen a year later. Meanwile, here on earth, I’ve been obsessed with the battle for Health Care reform. I really think Obama will pull this one out. Not in a major, “we’ve got fre care for everybody, like Sweden” kinda way. But all he really has to do is get The Healthcare industry’s boot off our necks for just a moment or two, and maybe that breathing room will lead to something better. Or maybe they’ll just stamp down harder. And then the Death panels will seem like a mighty fine idea in hindsight. Really? Death Panels? Orwell was underrated. I’ve said thisbefore, but just because we don’t wear grey jumpsuits and eat food out of a tube doesn’t mean we aren’t living in the dytopian future we were warned about.

you saw MOON?. I want to see that film bad.
