The 6th Man.

The greatest nickname in sports history belongs to Vinnie “The Microwave” Johnson. So called because he “heats up in a hurry”. And he did just that. Vinnie wasn’t a starter and he wasn’t a celebrity. He was a 6th man. Came off the bench. This isn’t about ego, it’s about getting the job done. Backing up your starters. Being ready. Vinnie would come off of the bench and drop 22 points in a quarter and the game would be over, before the other team even knew what was happening. In the 1990 finals, The Blazers double teamed Dumars and Isaiah with 7 seconds left in game five with the championship on the line. This put the ball in Vinnie’s hands. That’s like handing a knife to an asassin. Vin scored the bucket, and won the championship. I think there’s a lesson there for creative people. Picking your moments. Knowing when to lay back, and being ready to strike when the time comes. Not needing the perfect situation or a huge amount of time and resurces to do what you need to do. When your squad needs you, hit the floor running in an exalted state of egoless execution.
